A rare gourd shaped bronze (copper tin alloy) vase decorated in archaic style with leiwen (thunder) pattern motifs and a band of stylized waves.
This item was made in China in the 12th to 14th Century during the late Song or Yuan dynasties when ancient Shang and Zhou bronzes were unearthed and collected. This was a time when large numbers of antique inspired bronze vessels were produced. Huge quantities were subsequently exported to japan where many were used domestically as flower containers.
Condition: there are bumps and dents to the lower wave decorated zone.
